Castle domain Baudries

The Baudries castle domain is located northeast of the village of Dikkelvenne, near Gavere. The 'Goed te Baudries' was already mentioned in the 14th century as a fief of the lordship of Gavere. The oldest representative of the lordship 'Baudry' is known to be Jan Sloeve, a city alderman of Ghent, and possibly the first owner of the domain from 1305 to 1320. This patrician family would hold the estate until the 15th century. With the arrival of the family van Spangen, the domain would remain in the family for 14 generations. After the foundation of the old church in Dikkelvenne, located in the Rotse district, gave way in 1820, the countess lent money and exchanged a piece of land from the castle domain with the municipality. A new church of Dikkelvenne was built on this site, and a new village center subsequently grew up around it.
