“During that period, there was the appearance of Bernadette of Lourdes, a girl in the French Pyrenees who had seen the mother of God,” Hubert tells. “That story was popular in the Catholic world, leading to the construction of Lourdes grottos throughout Flanders, including here in Tielt on the Poelberg. Around the grotto, you will find a procession of chapels depicting the Stations of the Cross of Jesus, and even now, many people come here to pray and seek comfort.”
