Velodrome Leuven

The Velodroom is an artistic wooden oval cycling track by artists Elke Thuy and Bruno Herzeele. Cultural, sporting, social ... activities take place in and around the Velodrome. It will be an accessible, cozy and family meeting place.

The city of Leuven is working hard on the plans for the new performing arts site, a new public place for meeting and culture in the lower city.

Until the start of the construction works in the autumn of 2023, many partners will ensure a pleasant, temporary use of the empty space. In a neighbourhood-oriented and cultural program meeting will be central. Inspired by the World Cycling Championships, which will come to Leuven in September 2021, we are furnishing the plot with a wooden Velodrome.

A VELODROME... SO A CYCLING RUN?

Yes, or almost. Velodroom is an art installation by Bruno Herzeele and Elke Thuy that is not only beautiful and special, but as a new public space also invites people to come together, play, play sports, take the initiative, organize something... so a place where art and Leuven residents can meet. In this way, Velodroom also immediately refers to what the new performing arts site could mean in a few years' time.
