In 1873, Baroness Elise Le Candèle de Ghyseghem had the monastery with an adjacent school built in the current Wingensestraat. With the presence of sisters, she was sure there would always be teachers for her Catholic school. On Shrove Tuesday, 1874, three Apostoline Sisters arrived at the monastery. They became the head of the mixed school. Until November 2010, sisters invariably lived in the monastery building.
The Congregation of the Apostoline Sisters, actually Congregation of the Sisters of the Immaculate Conception, was founded in Antwerp in 1680 by the "God-fearing daughter" Agnes Baliques (1641-1700). The first apostles were not actual religious, because they had no monastic vows. The apostolines devoted themselves to the exercises of godliness, to the interior life, and to the spiritual and corporal works of mercy. With income from bobbin lace, they set up schools for the poor and penitents' homes.
Nowadays (2022) you can meet people on 2 days a week in Hertenbos, run by vzw 't Pleintje.
