Church of Saint Joseph - Wiemesmeer

The church is a replica of the dilapidated Gothic church of the former Hocht Abbey. Construction of the choir and transept began in 1935; the ship followed in 1940.

The consecration to Saint Joseph was probably done because the first names of the pastor and of Coenen were like that. In 1948 Saint Hubertus was added to this, because of the Hubertus festivities that take place in Wiemesmeer.

On October 28, 1976, the vault above the left nave collapsed. The organ and the rood screen were also destroyed. During the restoration, the structurally weak construction had to be remedied, which ultimately led to a metal construction that connected the vaults and the roof.

A new renovation was carried out at the beginning of the 21st century.

The church looks like a high Gothic cruciform church, adorned with a ridge turret. It is built of marlstone.

In the church you will find a number of modern works of art, such as statues and sculpted capitals from about 1950, and stations of the cross by Rafaël Clédina from the same period, in which village views from Wiemesmeer and a few adjacent hamlets were incorporated. Stained glass windows depict the life of Saint Hubertus. Some older statues were also purchased, namely a statue of Saint Hubertus from the 16th century and a Saint Joseph with Our Lady and Child from the 17th century.
