In 1822, the fifth colony of benevolence was established by Johannes van den Bosch and his Society of Benevolence in the now Belgian sub-municipality of Wortel, which was then part of the United Kingdom of the Netherlands. Since 2021, Wortel-Colony has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List, not as a monument but as a cultural landscape.
