En 1822, Johannes van den Bosch et sa Société de Bienfaisance ont fondé la cinquième colonie de bienfaisance dans l'actuelle commune belge de Wortel, qui faisait alors partie du Royaume-Uni des Pays-Bas. Depuis 2021, Wortel-Kolonie figure sur la liste du Patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO, non pas en tant que monument, mais comme paysage culturel.
