The Blankaart Castle is a castle located in the village of Woumen, which belongs to the West Flanders municipality of Diksmuide, situated at Iepersteenweg 54-58. Originally, there was a pond here that was created by peat extraction, which took place from the 13th century or earlier. Around 1865, a castle was built on this site by Baron Gustaaf de Coninck de Merckem, who had acquired the estate. It was designed by Joseph Schadde and constructed in eclectic style. A park was also created at that time, along with service buildings such as stables, a coach house, and a gardener's house. Furthermore, there was a kitchen garden and greenhouses. By the end of the 19th century, the pond was dredged, and a fish pond was created. An ice cellar and a duck decoy were also built. The estate, named De Blankaart, was already considered to have great natural historical value.
