Tannekes Garden Tielt

In 2015, Velt and Groen Tielt joined forces to realize the community garden project 'Tannekes Tuin'. The goal: to give everyone the chance to garden. A green and social project.

The community garden, whimsically called TaTuTi, now includes more than 62 plots of 30 m² each and several communal areas maintained collectively by the gardeners. There is a communal fruit garden and an herb garden. A beekeeper has set up some beehives, and they also raise chickens, pigs, and sheep. Next to the communal garden shed is the field shed, their cozy meeting space. Educational sessions are also held for schools.

The management is entirely done by the gardeners. There are mandatory community gardening days every month, during which communal tasks are carried out. There is a waiting list. To register or for more info, please email samentuinentielt@hotmail.com

The garden is named after Tanneke Sconyncx. In the sixteenth century, she was accused of witchcraft because of her extensive knowledge of herbs. For four days, she was tortured in Tielt. Tanneke lives on in a statue at the Hall Tower, the sweet blonde beer Tielts Tanneke, and now also in the community garden.

TIP: The garden plots are located at Wingenseteenweg 17. Next to electro Vandevoorde, there is a gravel access road. Drive up there, and you can continue to the barn where the garden plots are located.
