In the Dorpsstraat in Machelen-aan-de-Leie, nestled among the trees, lies the hidden gem, Castle Eeckendauw.
This heritage site was built around 1850 on the orders of the notary family Van der Eecken and has been owned by the Dauwe family since 1950.
The name 'Eeckendauw' is a combination of the names of both families.
The castle is built in the neoclassical architectural style, with the stunning façade featuring ionic columns and a pediment as its highlight.
Just like Castle Olsene and Castle Zulte, the ice cellar has been preserved. The coach house is also still intact.
Next to Castle Eeckendauw lies the French military cemetery.
This location is private.
