This war memorial is located at the Sint-Nicolas Church.
The church was the focus of the bombing of Namur on August 18, 1944, when American planes attempted to destroy the Luxembourg Bridge . The bombs missed their target and destroyed the western part of Namur, the Saint-Nicolas district. Nearly 360 people died as a result of this mistake.
In memory of this painful war event , a monument was erected to the left of the entrance to the church, adding the names of the civilian victims of the bombing of August 18, 1944 to the list of those who died in service during the two world wars. Every year a commemoration ceremony is held here in the presence of local and provincial authorities.
