The medieval-inspired garden, inaugurated in the autumn of 2007, marked a new phase in the ecotourism development of the city of Namur. After months of preparation and planting, this green jewel opened its gates for free to the public, high on the citadel.
Such a garden, reconstructed from historical documents , provides an ideal setting for exploring the way of life that was common in our region around the 15th century . The historic and landscaped environment of the place, its southern orientation, the vineyard tradition linked to the sunny slopes of the Citadel are all elements that make this site amenable to educational use.
The embankment space, bounded by the fortress walls, the “Joyeuse” and “César” towers and by the Route Merveilleuse, is organized in levels that recall the traditional layout of medieval gardens. To make the immersion complete, many historical elements can be found : trellises, pruning of trays... This entire garden is built around five themes : the "vegetable garden", the "simple garden", the "bouquet garden", the “garden of love” and the “cradle of the vine”.
