Église paroissiale de l'Immaculée Conception - Remouchamps

Risorsa: Willem Vandenameele

Descrizione

The first church in Sougné was built from different materials and was a small wooden chapel called “NOTRE DAME AU BOIS” dating from about the year 1000 .

Around 1230 a Romanesque church was built on its site, of which only the tower remains. She was dedicated to Saint Martin.

The current Church of the Immaculate Conception was built in 1739 under the pastorate of Abbé Houssonloge.

The church was consecrated in 1744 and dedicated to the Immaculate Conception.

The church was subsequently extended with two bays and a chancel in 1888 by M. Hallet.

The square tower, which testifies to the first church from the 13th century, is built of limestone and chained at the corners. It has a more recent arched door with cross etches (18th century). The tower is topped by a slate bell tower with dormer windows.

From 1994 to 1995 the church was completely restored ( roof, underfloor heating, etc.). The current church of Sougné is therefore the fourth religious building located on the same site. The collapse of two square meters of the 1744 vault on October 7, 2010 (feast of Our Lady of the Rosary) caused no casualties, but revealed the worrying condition of the entire ancient vault .

The current furniture consists of three altars in Jesuit style (18th century). The main altar is topped by a statue representing Our Lady of Victories and decorated with four angels in “Delcour” style.

From the Récollets Monastery, the church retains the choir stalls (17th century) , the statue of Our Lady of Victories at the high altar and the statue of Saint Francis of Assisi at the back of the church.

Embedded on the left in the wall under the rood screen, a reliquary , presented in 1892 by the former priest of Saint Marguerite Nicolas-Joseph Carpentier

The Immaculate Conception of Mary is a dogma of the Catholic Church that states that Mary was conceived and born without being stained with original sin .
Mary was conceived with an immaculate soul in her mother's womb, according to tradition Anna. God had already applied the purifying effect of the future redemption through her Son Jesus Christ to her soul. According to Catholic doctrine, Mary's special election meant that she is the only person in all of history whose soul has never been stained with any sin , not even with original sin.
The dogma of the Immaculate Conception is often confused with another dogma : that of the virginity of Mary - this concerns the birth of Jesus, without prior intercourse with a husband.
