The Sart Canal Bridge was designed to allow the Canal du Centre to cross the Thiriau du Sart River valley. This allows ships to continue their journey without interruption, while the landscape and infrastructure below remain untouched.
The bridge is approximately 500 metres long and 46 metres high, making it one of the largest canal bridges in Europe. The width of the water channel is 12.5 metres, which provides sufficient space for large inland vessels. The bridge was built between 1998 and 2001 due to the modernisation of the Centrumkanaal. The construction costs amounted to 29 million euros.
