First hallway: Names are under the works
The expo includes small graphics. Applying a rhythm that shows a universal character regarding the Beguinage.
Additionally applying folding forms.
Paper pocket! Safeguard engraver!
Students from the Print!studio each worked on a cover. The ‘Safeguard’ or free pass becomes the paper
link to our graphic studio. The envelope materializes a hidden world and can provide security for its
message. We allow form and content to coincide. The paper pocket remains as a memory of its
safeguard. A symbol for where time has come to a standstill. Individually, students made choices in their
creative process and incorporated their own interpretation into their work. We create a play of folding,
hiding, showing, and protecting.

Sauvegardeons nos femmes fortes! / Han Boschaert (Fashion Design)
Fashion drawing executed with graphite pencil, watercolor colored pencil, and DMC embroidery thread. middle hall We cherish and appreciate our strong women, transcending all times. In the theme of 800 years of Beguinage, we preserve the beauty of the beguines, their independence, creativity, care, and spirituality. In this fashion design, everything comes together, a strongly fashion-conscious model inspired by our beguine, creative, with love for the beguinage garden with its bare branches in winter and the yellow flowers in spring. The model is embraced by embroidery, a craft to cherish and safeguard as well. The connection with my chosen artist Laura Knight (1877-1970) is that she was the first female British artist elected to the Royal Academy. If that isn't a strong woman! For me, Laura Knight is an example to practice my drawing; her drawing talent is sublime, her paintings are about sea and beach, ballet dancers... which I love as well as the fashion style of the 1930s in which she grew up.
Glass painting of portraits of strong ladies (Middle Hall By the windows)
Portraits of strong ladies. The names of the references are next to the work. The painting on glass happens in different layers and each time the glass is baked. Most of the works have been baked four times.

You get lost in the gears of time. As a visitor, you determine how fast time moves by controlling the gears. However, caution is advised when turning the handle - perhaps this invention will not survive the 4 months and will become a 'viewing object' ...
Digital studio / Arts Lab Mauro Benincasa
3D visualization of still time In our society, it is often expected that we all turn and move at the same speed. But not every element of time should turn at the same speed. The hands on the clock indicate their own speed, and so do the metronome and hourglass. All instruments of time to measure and recognize, to bring us together. It is this time difference in these elements that society diminishes: they want every instrument to turn at the same speed. But you soon realize that it wouldn't work. Reading the clock becomes impossible, the hourglass becomes unusable, and the metronome and gear lose their utility.
New icons/ Marie-Christine Coucke Mixed media and riso-printed pass-through curtain in doorway:
As a visitor, you do not simply walk past this work — you have to walk through it to continue the exhibition. This makes you not only a spectator but also a participant and manipulator: you touch the work and give it a temporary, altered form. What you see is not a static image but a process. Both the visual language, the mixed media techniques, and the spatial presentation are part of a continuous exploration. The theme relates to Safeguard and refers to religious iconography, but from a contemporary and experimental perspective.
Group Work Digital studio / Arts Lab Clock time vs inner time - shown on a small, round LCD screen in a viewing box.
As the French philosopher Henri Bergson predicted, we constantly live in tension with clock time — our inner experience of time does not align with objective time. For the London watchmaker Mr. Jones, known for his mechanical watches with an illustrative approach, we designed timepieces that depict this duality. Are they clocks that depict inner time and display clock time?

The ceramics project in the inner garden of the Red Nuns is a presentation where the chair is the central object and starting point. We chose the chair as a form and medium: an everyday object that symbolizes presence, rest, and meeting. Scattered throughout the garden, the chairs together form a play of shapes and rhythms, a harmony of presence. Each chair carries a uniqueness within it — an echo of the work and story of the maker. The interaction between the work and the chair becomes a personification; the chair becomes a character.
