Parking can be found at the Sint-Bartholomeus church in Waanrode. When we follow the old Diestsestraat along the church, we arrive at junction 8, the start of the walk, after 100 meters. We walk along a field path past the Free Primary School Waanrode; behind this school is a Lourdes grotto from 1933. We continue walking and after 350 meters, we turn left. We keep walking along rural roads and pass SK Waanrode, the local football club. In total, we have covered 1 km when we turn right at the T-junction and go via a footpath towards the Halensebaan. Halfway along this footpath, we come across a charmingly located chapel, the Kapel van Steenbergen. Once we reach the Halensebaan, we turn left and take the first street back to the right into the Klein Kempenseweg. After 300 meters, this road turns into a footpath that ultimately leads us to the Eugene Coolstraat, where we turn right. After 100 meters, we enter a completely open hailands landscape. After 900 meters, we arrive at a T-junction where we turn left. We now encounter a gentle slope for 200 meters. Once we reach the top, we immediately descend 500 meters towards the Zelliksebaan. The first part is in open countryside; those who look closely can see the Bekkevoort water tower in the distance, while the last part is a sunken road. We turn right onto the Zelliksebaan and continue for 500 meters until we reach a crossroads, where there is also a chapel with a bench. Here, we turn right onto the Leemkuilstraat. We again face an incline for 900 meters. Once we reach the top, we turn right and walk through open meadows with beautiful views. We continue walking, always keeping left, and then descend along the Gravenbos until we arrive at the Halensebaan. At this point, we have covered a total of 6 km of the walk. We turn right, and after 400 meters, we turn left into a field path. We walk along this field path for 500 meters until we reach the old Diestsestraat, where we turn right and follow it for another 250 meters to return to the start of the walk.
