According to the legend of 'Notre Dame de Walcourt', the statue was taken during a fire in 1218 by angels from the other side of the valley into a tree at the place called 'le jardinet'. Despite several attempts to return it to the basilica, this was only achieved when Thierry II, Count of Rochefort and Lord of Walcourt, promised to build an abbey in honor of Our Lady, where the angels had placed her. Since the Middle Ages, pilgrims have been walking the route that the statue took. In this way, you discover more than 40 chapels, niches, crucifixes, or shrines. The highlight is the day of the Trinity. A solemn procession takes place then, accompanied by armed foot soldiers from the region of Tussen-Samber-en-Maas, commemorating the 'Miracle du jardinet'.
