Traveling without a car - From Brussels to Liège

Experience Haspengouw between wide horizons,
grain barns and square farmhouses
This multi-day trip takes you between Brussels and Liège, north of the Meuse,
to Haspengouw, a region known for its agricultural lands and wide horizons. The “granary of Belgium,” the nickname of this beautiful rural area, is poetic just like its open landscape that shows a view and a sky without limits, and a mosaic of colors in the fields, depending on the season. The Brabant and Liège Haspengouw are characterized by quite old centers where the Middle Ages have left their mark: square farmhouses, castle farms, castles, Romanesque churches…
You start your adventure in Hélécine and its famous castle located in a beautiful park of
28 hectares, which invites you to relax: walking paths, picnic, barbecue, playground,
mini-golf… In the surroundings of the castle, you will find a brasserie with a terrace by the water’s edge, which gives you a true holiday feeling. You can also taste the beer from the Castle of Hélécine, produced in the Brewery of Jandrain-Jandrenouille.
You cross the municipality of Orp-Jauche, known as the cradle of the green pudding, the ‘boudin vert’.
Then the plateau of Hannut offers views of the Walloon ‘censes’ (square farmhouses), the most monumental in the region. Next, you discover the valley of the Geer with expansive meadows bordered by poplars or willows. The Geer is one of the main tributaries on the left bank of the Meuse. It takes you among other things to the beautiful castle mill of Hollogne-Sur-Geer. This beautiful route also takes you past several nature reserves such as Le Paradis in Orp-le-Petit or Le Haut-Geer.
This adventure in this special region is accessible to everyone because there are no
