Description by the author

With this route we will pedal through the hilly landscape along the Scheldt between Mont-Saint-Aubert and Thimougies . It is part of the Pays de la plein de l'Escaut. Mont-Saint-Aubert and Thimougies are two beautiful villages that are worth a visit.

A nice stop can be the brewery La Rotonde in Beclers , after 32 km.

Keep in mind that there are off-road sections . In wet weather, there can be mud, and for those who absolutely want to avoid off-roading, this road is not suitable.

Start with the parking lot of the football field in Obigies as it is one of the closest points to the motorway .

We walk along the Scheldt a little to the Arboretum de Léaucourt where a giant table is set. We cross the vast hilly landscape around Mont-Saint-Aubert that we will climb at the end. In Moucourt there is a small private chapel with the grotto of Lourdes.

Just after exit 48, you can make an off-road detour to the Croix de la grise. We arrive in Thimougies where a reliquary bust of St-Hilaire is venerated. Walking around here is definitely worth it because of the artwork that can be seen here. Also note the special war memorial : on the hill with rubble from the Meuse valley is placed the "Lantern of the Dead".

We pass the windmill which was restored after a storm in 2008. There is a possibility to visit the mill.

Via Maulde, Beclers and Havinnes we arrive at Mont-Saint-Aubert which we climb, first to the Kalvarieberg and then to the church. It is certainly worth strolling here along the Poets' Garden.

In the past, pilgrims left the cult of Our Lady here because they were discouraged by the difficulty of the journey. Instead, they worshipped the Virgin of the Mound (Our Lady of the Tomb Chapel in Kain).

It now descends to the starting point.
