Fondry of the Dogs

The Fondry des Chiens in Nismes is also known as the Grand Canyon of the Ardennes, but it is not really comparable. The nature reserve of the Fondry des Chiens is a true masterpiece of nature and unique in Belgium. For this reason, the area has been declared protected and is an official nature monument.

The Fondry des Chiens is a natural pit that has formed by rainwater seeping through the limestone soil. Due to millions of years of water erosion, a gigantic pit has formed that is more than 20 meters deep. These natural pits are called Fondry's. It is truly a beautiful place to see because you absolutely do not expect it in this landscape. Jagged rocks, crevices, caverns, and rainwater that keeps dripping. In the summer months, you can see many lizards basking in the sun on the impressive rocks.
