Muco

- The first sight on this walk is to find a sundial by the artist Catherine Podolski. This sundial is located at the house of the artist who focuses on ceramics and was made in 1971.

- This house (number 152) has an altimetric point on the left. When this point was measured on 09/02/2018 it was 61,819 meters above sea level.

- At this roundabout you can see a Foucault pendulum. It is a blue steel construction with a nylon thread hanging from it. At the top is a nylon thread attached to which hangs a gold-coloured weight.

French physicist Léon Foucault demonstrated on March 26, 1851, that the earth rotates on its axis in the Pantheon in Paris with his construction. A pendulum flies back and forth, but because the earth rotates on its axis, the pendulum movement of the weight changes. In the original experiment, the pendulum was placed above a container of sand, which made the change in the pendulum movement clearly visible. This work of art (called "Pensée verticale") is striking because the changing pendulum movement cannot be observed and because of the water under the pendulum it is also difficult to set the pendulum in motion.

- On one of the houses in this street is a sundial from the year 1996 by PP Struye. At the bottom of the sundial is a saying 'SICUT DONAT SOL LUCEM AMOR VITAM'. This means 'As the sun gives us light, love gives life'. Above the bench at the sundial is also more explanation about how to use the sundial to determine the correct hour.

- At the cultural centre of Oudergem there is still a part of the 'Space for Muco' project. Here you can take a look at the planet Mercury, which has a diameter of 12 cm. This planet is the smallest in our solar system.

The artwork was inaugurated on May 16, 2004.

-Can you find the altimetric point that is next to the bridge 30cm above the second step? At this point you are exactly 56.638 (measured on 01/01/1981) above sea level.

- At the end of the walk you will see a symbolic representation of the planet Venus.

This Venus is part of a scale model (1/40,000,000) of space.

This scale model is an initiative of the Belgian Association for the Fight against Cystic Fibrosis and they organize national muco day every year. In 2004 this day was organized for the tenth time and in honor of this anniversary 10 works of art were installed that form the link between 'the world' and the permanent fight that muco patients wage against their disease. These are a symbol of solidarity.

To shorten the walk, you can skip the PP Struye sundial. You do this after you have passed the Foucault pendulum by taking the stairs to the railway walk instead of going under the bridge (this point is just after you have passed a climber on a house).
