The Bos t’ Ename is located on the hills of the Flemish Ardennes and has a rich history that dates back centuries, even millennia. 12,000 years, wrote the authors of a hefty book that was published last year about the forest.
It houses more than 15,000 species of plants, fungi, and animals. It was one of the first areas where nature management with grazers was practiced. You can still encounter horses and cattle there today.
It boasts its colorful spring splendor, but also reveals great charm in the autumn and winter. The vistas are one of its assets. Expect some climbing, as it can also be boggy. Part of the area is a nature reserve and is only accessible under supervision. However, the majority of the forest is freely accessible.
