AzureThe Black Gang was a feared criminal gang in the Galmaarden region during World War I. It was so named because members blackened their faces before going out to commit crimes. Often they also dressed up as Germans.
The gang was guilty of murder, extortion, burglary, robbery and it seemed that they had protection from above.
Most of their crimes were eventually covered up and never solved. The population remained silent for fear of reprisals.
