Green Bicycle Ring around Ghent

This route is not suitable for motorized vehicles. Attention, it runs over dirt roads and through nature reserves, where residents ensure that only non-motorized recreation seekers use the paths and streets.

What?
The Green Bicycle Ring is a 100 km long bike loop that connects the four green poles of Ghent. It stretches through all park forests, nature reserves, castle grounds, landscape parks, etc. around Ghent and offers many new opportunities for hikers and cyclists. It makes use of hundreds of slow roads, hunting paths, trails and alleys, dirt roads, and church paths, etc. This bike route runs more than a third over unpaved paths and takes you to hidden corners and places you only know from the car.

How?
The Green Bicycle Ring is accessible from many points by public transport from the city center of Ghent. This makes it very well suited for shorter bike tours. From your home in or outside Ghent, you ride to one of the 46 entry points (the POIs on the map), from there you cycle a portion of the ring and leave the route at the entry point of your choice to head home. At most entry points, you will find buses, trams, and trains.

Bicycle Rental
If you come from outside Ghent, you can rent a bike at the Max Mobiel bicycle points. The Blue Bikes from NMBS are also available for rent there. Max Mobiel has bicycle points at the Ghent-Sint-Pieters and Ghent-Dampoort stations as well as in the city center under the City Hall. All information at www.max-mobiel.be/fiets-huren.

The Green Bicycle Ring was designed based on the available roads and paths in the spring of 2015. It will be adjusted when new bike paths become available. Suggestions for improvement and information about changed situations on-site or new roads can be sent to wanderlust@outlook.be.
