This route takes you along various landscapes of the Semois valley on the one hand, but also a lesser-known but somewhat rough valley and a Des Aleines stream and then takes you higher to the vast landscapes above Auby, then we will look for wildlife on a long descent to the starting point.
Itinerary:
The route starts at Camping Les Ochay, you can leave your car there safely. We cross the bridge over the Semois and follow the paved road towards Bertrix. In the bend, you take the left path which is marked by red and white GR signs. The path climbs the hill quite quickly and is immediately a difficult start, but this will be rewarded with beautiful views of the Semois. Once we arrive at the chapel, where you can always leave a message in the book at the altar, we do not take the paved road but the strongly ascending path on the right and leave the GR path. This somewhat unknown path that narrows further down takes you to another beautiful view of the Semois valley. You continue to follow this path until you reach the paved road again and continue to follow it upwards. Further on, we take the first exit on the left towards "Grottes de Remacle". You continue to follow this wide path until you reach a large crossroads of forest roads where you take the second exit on the right, a path descending to a stream. During wet periods, the path below is underwater and it is very muddy. Once below, we cross the stream and turn the path towards the Semois. At the next junction we take the path on the left as you continue along the banks of the Semois. We continue to follow this path until it turns away from the Semois and continues slightly uphill to a paved road. We turn left towards Maka. You continue to follow the paved road until you reach a bridge where the Aleines stream crosses the road. If you want to have a picnic, you can find a picnic area a little further away at Camping Maka, highly recommended in summer! At the stream we take the path for the bridge on the right, it goes down just as steep so be careful. We now follow white rectangles with a blue cross. We are now entering a somewhat unknown valley of the Ruisseau des Alaines and should not be inferior to the valley of the Semois. In summer, the grass can be very tall, which can make it less pleasant. On the left, we also notice a beautiful rock formation that rises above the stream. A little further just before the meander, the path forks and climbs towards the forest where we follow the river further upstream. A little further away is "Roche a Colas Tcha Tcha", a small viewpoint just above the river. We follow the path further until we find ourselves on a paved road towards La Cornette that we took to the bridge over the stream. We now leave the valley of the stream and take the tarmac road rising to the right of the bridge, you follow it until the asphalt turns into a wide forest road and a wide forest road appears on the right where we take the forest road on the right. The landscape changes drastically from the wooded area to a very wide grassy plain and cornfields as soon as you reach the top of a concrete road. We follow the road straight ahead and continue to follow it until it turns to the edge of the forest where we follow the road to the right. A little further, we arrive at a rather dangerous intersection with a beautiful view of the Semoisvalei de Cugnon. You can also take a break at the picnic area. We take the concrete road straight down to the valley, and because we do not like to walk along such alleys, we take the path to the left at the first turn to the right, it is a little hidden in the forest but it is indeed a beautiful path strongly descending. At the next fork, we turn right. We now enter the area where there are many wild animals and you will notice that in the shelters along the road and the many traces of game. At the next fork we turn left and continue to follow the path straight until it turns right and connects to the lower paved road, the last part also falls very heavily. We return from where we took the forest path at the beginning, we follow the paved road towards the bridge over the Semois to finish the walk tired but satisfied.
