Description by the author

This is a bucolic circuit through the countryside. The gentle relief of the region and the small land consolidation roads invite you to a beautiful bike ride through a region rich in history.

This family-friendly tour along busy country roads allows you to discover some witnesses of the past. Most of the circuit runs along crop fields. This region of Brabant is characterized by views, vast farmland and hedgerows. It is one of the granaries of Belgium.

We follow a bucolic route that sometimes runs on paved roads. In the past, Brabant horses pulled carts with hay here.

Shortly after Gentinnes, we arrive at some beautiful farms, the 'Ferme de Géronvillers' and then the 'Ferme de Gentissart' and the 'Ferme du Colombier', which testify to the richness of the fertile land. On a gentle hill, the church of Mellery rises on the ochre yellow background of cornfields. The village is located just a few kilometers from the abbey of Villers-la-Ville.

It was destroyed after the French Revolution, but today the ruins are one of the largest and most beautiful witnesses of medieval monastic heritage. At the end of the tour, we take the road that leads us there (see the variant in blue on the map).

Type of route: Land consolidation roads and passable roads.

Type of bike: Mountain bike.

Difficulty: An 18 km course without major difficulties. Beware, however, of pavers that can be slippery. Land consolidation roads are traffic-free. From Mellery it is necessary to take into account 3 additional kilometers to get to the Abbey of Villers-la-Ville

Children: From +/- 12 years.

Departure: From the village square of Mellery you go to the cemetery.

Signage:
Follow the mountain bike signs of the circuit 'The Three Provinces' (triangles and red circles).

Parking: Places next to Mellery's church.

Difficulty: Medium
