Meeting point at the neoclassical Sint-Elisabeth Church (V) in Stokkem, a district of Dilsen-Stokkem. With your back to the church, turn left and immediately turn left into Rechtestraat. Ignore all side streets and walk straight to the Burg. Prevotlaan. After 300 m, at the entrance to the bike path, briefly go right and then left along the bike path on the dike. The large bodies of water on the right are a result of intensive gravel mining along the Grensmaas. After 350 m from the dike, turn left by house number 23 onto a wide path and then take the first path on the right. Here you walk in Koeweide, a beautiful field with many nesting geese and lapwings in spring. Ignore the turn-off to a chapel. At the asphalt road, turn left, a little further turn left again, and at a fork, take the wide path diagonally to the right. This will bring you back to the asphalt road after making a right-angle turn. Turn right and immediately after the Old Maas, turn right again into Vissersstraat. Ignore all side streets and at the T-junction, turn right, always along the Old Maas. Along the fish-rich ponds, remnants of the former riverbed, many waterfowl breed, including wild swans, great crested grebes, and cormorants.

Ignore the side paths and stay on the asphalt road until junction 49. Here, turn right. Continue straight along the bike path and after 500 m, turn left onto a wide paved road towards the Maas. Turn right on the concrete path along the Maas. Leave this after 400 m and stay at the Maas on a wide dirt road. The Maas forms the border between Belgium and the Netherlands here, hence the name Grensmaas. It is not navigable, except for kayaks. Most of the shipping that passes over the Maas from Liège to Holland travels via the Julian Canal, east of the Maas, over 36 km between Maastricht and Maasbracht. The villages on the other side are Grevenbicht and Obbicht. There are also many waterfowl here. Passing the latest gravel pits, you enter the nature reserve Kerkeweerd. Here, the summer dike broke in December 1993 and January 1995, and a lot of clay, sand, and gravel was deposited. The Limburgs Landschap Foundation aims to develop a natural Maas environment with floodplain forests, ponds, and gravel and sand banks. Large herbivores, semi-wild Polish Konik horses, and Scottish Galloway cattle are present on the premises, which are suitable for staying outdoors year-round and must ensure that the area does not completely overgrow. A few hundred meters further, a large colony of sand martins nests in a steep wall, remnants of another flooding of the Maas. Continue along the water, further along the water, and then 300 m along the main road towards Meeswijk-Veer. Here you will find a terrace for a stop. Leave the ferry on the left and go right into Palmenhof. After a few dozen meters, turn left along the bike path, towards junction 56, and after 50 m turn right. To your left is the picturesque farm Palmenhof. Continue between the stable and the manure heap. Go straight over the hedge, after 600 m make a right-angle turn. At the pump station, turn right. After 50 m, turn right onto the asphalt road. Go left next to house number 68A and soon you will find yourself back in a quiet field. After 400 m, leave a road on the left and continue 150 m further, turning right at the fork. You will pass a pasture storage. Back at the asphalt road, choose left. After half a kilometer, cross the main road, walk straight along the rampart, and after 100 m turn left again towards the church.
