The area between Eeklo, Ghent, and Deinze is characterized by a flat and low-lying cultural landscape that was systematically developed under the rule of the Counts of Flanders. Here, the inhabitants of Ghent established their first connections to the open sea. You pass the Burggravenstroom north of the center and the Lievekanaal south of it. In the 19th century, the diversion canal of the Leie was also constructed. All these waterways, together with the tranquil forest area of the Provincial Dominion Het Leen, create the elements for a varied walk with many viewpoints.

After 8 km, just behind the Lievebrug, turn right at the traffic light into the center of Waarschoot.
