Doom Church

Today you will explore the forested surroundings of Sint-Pietersfeld and the 'Towers of Ruiselede', which will serve as guiding markers throughout the hike. Heath and moor areas adjacent to Bulskampfeld have since been reforested or cultivated. Some areas, such as the Vorte Woods and the Gulke Lakes, are silent witnesses of the past. The transition between forest passages, cropland, and wet meadows makes for a beautiful hike. Quiet roads with little traffic connect the different parts. You start in Doomkerke, a municipality that only emerged in the second half of the 19th century in Bulskampfeld.
DEPARTURE POINT
You can reach the church of Doomkerke by taking the E40 at exit 11-Aalter and following the N44 towards Maldegem for 1.5 km. Then turn left towards Sint-Maria-Aalter, where you will turn left towards Wingene. After 2.5 km you can turn left into Doomkerke.
PARKING
On the main street in front of the church.
TYPE OF PATH
Forest paths in the Vorte Woods, otherwise low-traffic asphalt and gravel roads. Some grassy strips in the Gulke Lakes.
ACCESSIBILITY
Possible for strollers and accompanied wheelchairs on the shortest route.
