Religious heritage around Temse-Hamme. Cycle route 'Heilig Harnas'

Welcome to the land of trousers, mudflats and salt marshes. The rivers Durme and Scheldt have proved to be a blessing but just as often a curse! Flooding was rife. The Church and abbeys often acted as protectors. Through the reclamation of the land with the construction of dikes but also as mental support and comfort as evidenced by the veneration of the water saint Amelberga and the numerous chapels. It is also the region of the beatified Priest Poppe who stood up for the poor and young.

The cycle route starts in Temse and goes via the dike to Tielrode. With the ferry you will reach the Hamme region where you reach Kastel via a piece of unspoilt nature. We stop in picturesque Moerzeke and then go after Hamme. Via the voluptuous Miraburg we cross the Durme again to return to Temse.
