Ravels (Bruges walk)

Beautiful nature walk in the 'Gewestbos Ravels' which is very suitable to do in warm weather. Here and there one comes to open plains but for the most part one walks under the shade of the trees. The walk is not called 'bruggeskeswandeling' for nothing, we counted 17 but there are more.

Natuurenbos.be writes the following in his brochure; "Top nature in Ravels Regional Forest In the Turnhoutse Kempen, the Ravels Regional Forest extends over an area of 930 hectares. It is divided into several sub-areas: Government, Regional Forest Ravels North and Regional Forest Ravels South. The area is not only popular with recreationists. The remaining fens and heathland are a paradise for insects and amphibians. Rare beauties such as heather blue, brown winter damselfly and gray sand bee fly here. Near the water you will find the common toad and various salamander and frog species. The grasslands and heather are also home to special plants, such as the small sundew, swamp wolf's claw, heather cartel leaf and spotted orchid. The alternation between forest and open terrain also creates a varied bird fauna, with species such as tawny owl, wasp thief, hawk, nightjar and yellow bunting."
