We start our walk at the town hall on Bruwierplein. We step to the right of the building and reach Arthur Coussensstraat via Josué Duponlaan, which we follow to the right.
We cross this street and arrive at St. Michael's Church through a small alley. This alley was formerly called "Klokkenluidersstraat," today "Markt."
The path turns left, past Huize Zonnevreugde, towards Mexicostraat. Now, via Mexicostraat, we head toward a higher area, away from the hustle and bustle of the center. Where Mexicostraat turns left, we continue straight ahead and follow Panoramastraat uphill.
In Panoramastraat, we fully enjoy a magnificent panorama: the apartment buildings of the coast, the sturdy, neo-Romanesque St. Michael's Tower in the valley of the Blekerijbeek, and the sharp tower of St. Martin's Church in Koekelare.
We continue along Panoramastraat, past the left bend to Bergstraat, towards Diksmuidebaan. Bergstraat here forms the boundary between Ichtegem and Koekelare. We cross Diksmuidebaan, built in 1769-71, and continue along Bergstraat.
We take a moment in Veldemolenstraat - the farm housed the Veldemolen until it was set on fire by the Germans in October 1914 - until we reach a very old, restored chapel from 1802. We turn back and continue along Bergstraat, past the T.V. and F.M. distribution tower on Ruidenberg, 40 meters above sea level. A beautiful landscape surrounds this height, where on clear days the view extends over the Wijnendalebos to the West Flemish Hills, including Kemmelberg.
We reach Ruidenbergstraat. Together with Zuster Clarastraat, it constitutes the route of the Roman military road Kassel-Aardenburg. We follow Ruidenbergstraat to the left, always straight ahead, past Vinkensveldstraat and Merelstraat. In the meadows beyond 'Hof ter Linden' on your right lies the highest point of the municipality at 51m above sea level!
Via a footpath to the right, Sintelweg, we arrive at Ermietshoek. It is certain that a hermit or recluse stayed here, certainly still in 1748. We walk left to Kortemarkstraat. We cross this street and arrive in Jagersstraat at the edge of Wijnendalebos. We reach Zuster Clarastraat, which we follow to the right. We leave this former military road to the left at the chapel "Maria, mother of the poor" via the cobblestones of Fonteinstraat. Behind this chapel, you can see the tower of Roopijpfontein.
We reach the neighborhood "De Reiger," at the height of restaurant ‘Padrone,’ formerly café ‘De Reiger,’ an inn from 1774. We cross Diksmuidebaan and now enter Keibergstraat. We are once again treated to a beautiful panorama over the valley from which the church towers of Ichtegem and Koekelare rise, the water tower of Roksem, and the coastline.
We walk past Veldstraat leading to the 't Veld neighborhood. Here, Keiberg reaches 41m above sea level.
At the bend, we leave Keibergstraat to the right via a road, amid fields and meadows, paved with cobbles, ‘kinderkopjes’: Lookhuisstraat. It references ‘t Groot Lookhuys, a walled castle farm. In the meadows to the right, Vossebeek springs up, flowing under the street. We reach Engelstraat and enter the "De Engel" neighborhood. We first follow Engelstraat to the left, and a bit further, we leave this busy main road via a walking path to the right.
We walk past a residential area on Vossebeekstraat and arrive at Ringlaan. We follow it briefly to the right until Sparrestraat comes out onto Ringlaan. We follow Sparrestraat to the left.
We reach Moerdijkstraat, where Vossebeek flows under the right footpath.
We choose to take the church path "Kruiswegel" further ahead to the left before the bend, leading to the neighborhood "De Vijver." We walk around this hamlet and choose a narrow path to the right towards the forest at a small farm.
At the crossroads of forest paths, just before the domain of Rosendahl Castle, with its atmospheric forest chapel, we walk left. We continue along this peaceful forest path until we reach the houses, ‘the slekkehuizen,’ and choose Rozendaalweg to the left.
We walk toward the farm along an old church path. We continue this footpath until we reach the concrete road, still Rozendaalweg, which we follow to the left.
We step over Blekerijbeek, which flows into Vossebeek in the vicinity of Rosendahl Castle.
We follow this quiet, rural road and once again catch sight of St. Michael's Tower. Thus, we come to St. Bertinuslaan, which we follow to the left.
To the right, Kasteelwegel leads us back to the Markt and town hall, our starting point.
