The parish church is a gem of Brabantine early Gothic architecture, a mini-cathedral, a focal point for those entering Lombeek. Upon entering the church, one is truly astonished by the historical treasures of art: the Maria altarpiece, unique in its kind, the Goynaut organ, sculptures from the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, and much more.

'Loemmek' the prettiest village in Brabant
> In 2008, a grand election for the most beautiful village was held in Flanders. The people of Brabant had already decided by SMS that for them, OLV-Lombeek was the prettiest village in Brabant. Undoubtedly, the beautiful church and the renowned 'Zeppos mill' played a significant role. In the grand final against 4 other Flemish villages, OLV Lombeek ultimately lost to the equally beautiful Oud-Rekem (thanks to the mass SMS voting from Limburgers). It remains, therefore, that OLV-Lombeek is still the prettiest village in Flemish Brabant. Furthermore, the second prettiest village in Brabant is also a Pajottenland village: Gaasbeek.

The original name for the mill is the Hertboommolen. The name refers to the large open meadow adjacent to the mill. In the rent book from 1391, the oldest mention of the windmill, it reads “1 bunre land at hertboem by the windmill.”

The nicknames

The tragic mill (see legends, stories, myths)
Over the past centuries, the windmill has gained a grim nickname due to a series of tragic events.
On New Year's Day 1745, later members of the gang of Jan De Lichte attacked the millhouse and murdered the miller. On April 22, 1917, in a second robbery-murder, the sister of the miller and the miller's apprentice were brutally killed. Since then, the common term “Tragic mill” has been used, a name often found in literature and mill inventories. As a sign of mourning, the storm boards on the mill sails were painted black.

The “mill of Captain Zeppos”
The nickname “Zeppos Mill” evokes more pleasant memories. In the 1960s, most scenes of the classic youth serial Captain Zeppos were filmed on and around the mill. Captain Zeppos is the mysterious inhabitant of the Molenhoeve. All of Flanders watching TV follows his adventures. It is therefore not surprising that the popularity of the serial contributes to the mill's fame.
