Walk through the Great Beemd in the valley of the Great and Small Herk.

A calm and flat walk through the nature reserve De Grote Beemd in the valley of the Kleine and Grote Herk between Alken and Wellen.
Starting at De Alk, the spacious parking lot of the Alkense playground, including sports fields, and very close to the center of the municipality of Alken.
At the end of this nature walk, the hiker is rewarded with a delicious ice cream at Icebar Verano right across from the parking lot De Alk at Koutermanstraat number 19.
Icebar Verano is open every day from 1:00 PM, except on Tuesdays (closing day).

The complete walk is about 9 km long, but the walking route is designed so that there are three possible shortcuts.
The first shortcut is already available after half a kilometer of walking, at the parking lot of Manege Alius.
The second shortcut is after about 1.6 km of walking, where one makes the crossing between the Kleine Herk and the Grote Herk.
The third shortcut is after about 2.7 km of walking, at the Bodemstraat, where a second crossing is possible between the Kleine Herk and the Grote Herk.
