The Galm State Forest is, alongside the larger lakes, the only area in Switzerland that is not assigned to any municipality. It belongs directly to the canton, in contrast to the municipalities in the canton of Ticino, which are in communal ownership of several municipalities.
The Galm area is under the direct sovereignty of the Canton of Fribourg. It has an area of 257 ha and is located in the Seebezirk. The BFS number is: 2391
