Church Kirchlindach

The Church of Kirchlindach is the Reformed village church of the municipality of Kirchlindach near Bern. It was built around 1200 on the foundations of older structures from the 8th to 10th centuries and was later remodeled several times. It was dedicated to Saint George. With its medieval wall paintings, it is one of the most significant rural churches in the Canton of Bern.
The church is in its current state similar to many Bernese rural churches. The church building with a hipped roof is attached to the polygonal choir on the east side. The entrance at the west front is covered by a porch with a shed roof. The tower is attached to the north façade at the choir arch, built half inside and half outside. Its wooden shingle roof was restored after a renovation of the roof structure in 2013. Opposite, the south wall is broken through by another portal. The current structure consists largely of late Romanesque elements. The oldest feature visible is the blind arcading interrupted by vertical pilasters on the northern outer wall of the nave. The church stands slightly elevated, surrounded by a wall, on the Lindachstrasse of Kirchlindach. To the east is the also listed parsonage, and to the west is the imposing parsonage building that houses the church community halls.
