Halengut

The Halengut, also known as Lentulus-Gut, is a small country house in Herrenschwanden, municipality of Kirchlindach, located at Hauptstrasse 236 Bern – Aarberg. It is noted on historical maps along with the adjacent farmhouse designated as “an der Vorderen Halen.”

The house was built around 1770 as a gentleman's house for the farm by its owner Viktor Karl von Büren, Baron of Vaumarcus, land steward of Aarberg, and mayor of Unterseen, and was called Sonnhalde. His widow sold the estate in 1780 to Captain and notary Franz Ludwig Küpfer. His son inherited it in 1814 and sold it in 1817 to Anna Esther von Rodt, who sold it just a year later to Captain Samuel Friedrich Zehender. In 1831, Rupertus Scopio Lentulus, a captain in French service, and his son Karl Rudolf von Lentulus acquired the property. The namesake General Friedrich II of Prussia, who owned the Bernese Monrepos campaign, comes from the older line. The widow of Rupertus, the civil Maria Magdalena Eymann, sold the estate in 1846, a year after his death, to the public notary Johann Hähni, and subsequently, the estate now called Lentulusgut changed hands many times before coming to the farmer Gottfried Leuenberger in 1918. In 1930, it was acquired by his son-in-law Johann Eichenberger, who sold it in 1965 to his nephew Alexander Ruchti–Leuenberger. Since then, the property has remained in the ownership of the Ruchti family. The accompanying farmhouse belongs to the Sahli family.
