The Wartburg rampart is a repeatedly modified part of the military fortifications of the Wartburg in Eisenach. The original function of the Wartburg rampart was to secure the main access to the Wartburg.
The rampart refers to the area immediately in front of the drawbridge with a small tower, the sunken roadway leading into the rock, and the slightly elevated forecourt extending to the northeast, equipped with cannons and a viewing point. In this area, there was, until the restoration of the Wartburg in the mid-19th century, an early modern structure to protect the castle gate. East of the rampart, on a rocky outcrop, are the remains of an older fortification, which is mentioned as the Fisher Tower in the castle chronicle.
