At Obersalzberg stood Hitler's holiday residence. He spent much of his time here from 1923, among other places on the grounds of the Moritz guesthouse. From 1922, he stayed at his own Berghof. That was bombed flat in 1945. In the 1930s, this area became a full Nazi mountain. It was managed by Martin Bormann, Hitler's secretary. The Moritz guesthouse became a Volkhotel for party members. There is also a bunker and a 5 km tunnel system known as the Alpenfestung. Above the rocks lay the Eagle's Nest or Kehlsteinhaus. Hermann Göring and Albert Speer also lived in this area.
