Barnin is a municipality in the northeast of the Ludwigslust-Parchim district in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It is administered by the Crivitz office based in the town of the same name.
The municipality is located north of Federal Highway 321. The A14 motorway is accessible via the Schwerin-Ost interchange. Barnin is situated about three kilometers northeast of Crivitz. The village is located on the southeast shore of Barniner Lake. The Warnow River flows through the municipality. In the eastern part of the municipality lies the forest area Barniner Tannen and to the south is the Eichholz. The latter contains the highest point in the municipality at 88.2 m above sea level.
