At the mouth of the Wörnitz into the Danube lies the former Free Imperial City of Donauwörth, which grew out of a fishing settlement on the Wörnitz island "Ried". The magnificent axis of the historic old town between the town hall and the Fugger house is the Reichsstraße with its impressive patrician houses, one of the most beautiful streets in southern Germany.
