The first documented mention of Drispenstedt dates back to the year 1193. During the Brunswick city feud, it was destroyed in 1493, and during the Hildesheim convent feud, it was devastated in 1522, with its fields laid waste. After the Reformation was introduced in the Hildesheim Andreas Church in 1542, the place became Protestant and remained so initially despite ongoing attempts at re-Catholicization. During the Thirty Years' War, the official confession affiliation changed several times, and by the end of the war, the place was Catholic again. In 1848, the population was 193, and by 1900, it had grown to 509 residents. The seal that the community used until the end of its independence was granted in 1933 during the introduction of a municipal coat of arms in all municipalities of the district. It traces back to a seal from 1297 which depicts a stylized rose. In 1938, it was incorporated into the city of Hildesheim. In December 1959, this city designated a large construction area. From 1960 onward, over 1800 new apartments were built in Neu-Drispenstedt. A large portion of these apartments is managed by the Non-Profit Building Association, where around 5000 people of various nationalities live. On December 31, 2005, Drispenstedt had a total of 5748 residents.
