Ebstorf Abbey is the place where the famous Ebstorf Map was made. It was a world map or “mappa mundi” with the religious view on the world from the 13th century. It shows you where ‘paradise’ is.
The original map was burned during a bombing raid in 1943 on Hanover during the world war. However a faithful copy of the original can still be seen in the monastery.
Ebstorf Abbey (German: Abtei Ebstorf or German: Kloster Ebstorf) is a former Benedictine monastery of nuns. Today it serves as a German convent, or residence for women, near the Lower Saxon town of Uelzen.
