The core town of Kirchlinteln in the municipality of the same name in the district of Verden in Lower Saxony has around 2500 inhabitants. It is the largest village in the municipality, seat of the most important administrative institutions, location of a school, the police and an Evangelical Lutheran parish.
Kirchlinteln is located in a rural, slightly undulating and heavily wooded landscape, about 10 kilometres east of Verden. Directly northeast of the village begins the Lintelner Geest, a transition area between the Stader Geest and the Lüneburg Heath that touches the district of Verden. To the south, the community is separated by the motorway from the so-called Kleinbahnbezirk, a group of villages within the municipality of Kirchlinteln. The village of Kirchlinteln is crossed by the mostly dry and largely canalized Gibbach, which is called the Reith by the locals. This flows into the Gohbach, a tributary of the Aller, near Weitzmühlen.
