Organs of St. Jacob's Church

The organs of St. Jakobikirche are the four organs of St. Jakobi in Lübeck. The Great Organ on the west gallery and the Stellwagen organ on the north wall date back to the oldest parts from the 15th century. The choir organ was reconstructed in 2003 in the original casing from 1673 and is located in the south aisle of the church. In addition, St. Jakobi has a special organ from the first half of the 20th century: In the "Distler Hall" across from the church, the house organ built by Paul Ott in 1938 for Hugo Distler was installed.
Initial reports of organ music in Lübeck date back to the 14th century. The oldest components of today’s Great Organ in St. Jakobi come from the Gothic block work organ of 1465/66. The Gothic prospect from 1504 is also preserved. It forms the current main work and is associated with Peter Lasur. Hans Köster added an elaborately decorated Rückpositiv in the Renaissance style in 1573. Exactly 100 years later, Jochim Richborn carried out an expansion renovation and supplemented the organ with a Brustwerk and two Baroque pedal towers. The organ now had 51 stops and was Richborn's greatest work. Over the centuries, various adjustments and tonal changes occurred. Christoph Julius Bünting placed the Brustwerk as an upper work behind the main work casing between 1739 and 1741 and expanded it by three stops. In the pedal, he added a 32′ Trombone.
