The Sprossel Fountain is a small spring located north of Haimendorf, a district of Röthenbach a.d. Pegnitz in the Middle Franconian district of Nürnberger Land. It is situated within the municipal area of the town of Lauf an der Pegnitz.
The Sprossel Fountain is also referred to as the Spratzel Fountain. The natural monument is located near the Hüttenbach Gorge by Haimendorf. Depending on the season and weather, the spring has a discharge of several liters per second. It springs from a Rhäto-Lias sandstone rock that is interspersed with clay layers. The water outlet has formed numerous discharge tubes in the sandstone, of which the higher-lying ones no longer carry water due to ongoing erosion of the clay layers inside the rock. After about 150 meters, the water merges into the Hüttenbach, a tributary of the Pegnitz. The fountain gets its name from the pattering sounds of the water outlet.
