The Gußmann cave has a length of 91 meters and is located in Lenningen in the district of Gutenberg in Baden-Württemberg on the Swabian Jura. The vertical extent of the cave is 16 meters. The typical fissure cave is situated 680 meters above sea level.
The cave was discovered by Karl Gußmann in 1890. It was excavated in 1890/91. However, the paleontological yield was low. Some mammoth molars and fragments of teeth were found. In May 1891, the Gußmann cave was opened to the public as a show cave. As early as 1891, the first electric arc lighting was installed, but it was removed after three months due to maintenance errors. The cave received permanent electric lighting in 1922.
