The Prinz-Max-Palais, originally Palais Schmieder, is a villa in the Gründerzeit style in Karlsruhe. It is named after Prince Max of Baden, the last chancellor of the German Empire.
The building was constructed between 1881 and 1884 according to plans by the architect Josef Durm. The client, the entrepreneur August Schmieder, who was born in Karlsruhe, had the villa built as a retirement residence. He had failed as a brewery owner in Karlsruhe before earning his fortune starting in 1850 in mining and as a banker in Breslau. After Schmieder's death, Prince Max of Baden acquired the property and moved in there in 1900.
