The Eilenburg barracks was a military facility in the city of Eilenburg, which existed from 1913, with a break during the interwar period, until 1991. Throughout its history, it was used by various German armies as well as the US Army and the Soviet Army. Built as an infantry barracks, it later also housed artillery, medical units, and electronic warfare units. It is located in the southeast of the Mitte district, not far from the city train station, and is bordered to the south by the Halle-Cottbus railway line.
On June 25, 1913, the plans of the Prussian Army Administration, which envisaged Eilenburg as the location for the III. Battalion of the 4th Thuringian Infantry Regiment No. 72, were presented to the public. Later that same year, construction began on a barracks in a previously undeveloped floodplain area of the Mulde near the train station. The architect was the city builder of Eilenburg, Otto Lemke. During World War I, the regiment moved from Eilenburg to the Western Front on August 9, 1914, and returned on December 23, 1918. The barracks were completed in 1916. Subsequently, the recruitment depot of the replacement battalion of the Landwehr Infantry Regiment No. 72 was moved to Eilenburg, stationing about 3,200 soldiers at this location. In November 1918, the replacement battalion stationed here was dissolved. On May 26, 1919, the VI. Department of the State Hunter Corps moved into the barracks, but left the location again on March 21, 1920. Shortly before the dissolution of the Eilenburg garrison, the II. Battalion of the Jäger Regiment 31 of the Reichswehr moved in on April 11, 1920.
