Theater Neu-Ulm is the only professional theater in Neu-Ulm, operated as a private theater under the legal form of GbR, a partnership under civil law. Theater Neu-Ulm is a member of the Association of Free Performing Arts Bavaria e.V.
The theater was founded in 1994 by Claudia Riese and Heinz Koch in Berlin as a free stage without a fixed venue under the name AuGuSTheater. In the first two years, AuGuSTheater was a guest in cooperation with the Theater Ulm and played on the stage of the so-called Podium on the days when performances were not scheduled. In the 1996/1997 season, they collaborated with the dansarts balletcentrum based in Ulm, where performances were held on weekends.
